From TayLUG
This is the website for the Dundee & Tayside Linux Users Group (TayLUG). Our group comprises of Linux, Unix and other general computer users who are interested in FOSS (Free and Open Source Software). Many subjects are discussed at our meetings and on our mailing list regarding FOSS and other IT related issues.
The meetings are held by the Abertay Linux Society every 2nd Thursday (see the Meetings link for more details) at the University of Abertay Dundee. The meeting room is in the main University of Abertay campus building.
The Abertay Linux Society is a student society within the University of Abertay Dundee whose policy is to promote Free and Open Source Software. The benefit of this society is to make available University facilities to students and the general public in conducting FOSS meetings, the majority of Abertay linux Society members are also TayLUG members. This link between University and LUG reinforces the origins of FOSS where Free and Open Source Software ideas were spawned within Universities and involved public cooperation and whereby FOSS communities were born.
The TayLUG mailing list comprises of approx. 120 members, this community is very diverse in age, experience and knowledge. We all try to help one another so if you have a problem or query, post it here and we will all try to help in giving you a solution.
All the mail archives of TayLUG has been transferred into a database with a strong search engine giving a powerful knowledge base for FOSS users.
The TayLUG Cloud is to demonstrate how Linux can be used with a small footprint, i.e. a small operating system, on the web so that they are not tied to their desktop for what they want to do. Two public accounts have been created so that visitors can have a look at what a FOSS operating system can do. The two accounts are 1. user = guest1, password = pass1 2. user = guest2, password = pass2 .
This page has embedded video links to sites such as youtube etc. The videos are to show new Linux users the history and development of FOSS.
